Description
One of the forefathers of the NYC disco & garage scene, Danny Krivit has been integrally involved in the grand and ambitious world of music from the time of his adolescence onwards. Growing up the son of prominent Manhattan club owners, Krivit was raised squarely in the midst of downtown music & club culture, crossing paths with a plethora of soul & rock royalty before emerging into his own as one of NYC’s most well-respected & revered disco club DJ’s. It was during this time---during golden era of 1970’s hedonism---that Krivit defined & honed his craft as the “godfather of the edit,” a title he still reinforces to this day with his steady stream of esteemed disco & house reinterpretations. Of course, it was his defining residency at the legendary “Body & Soul” parties alongside fellow residents Joe Claussell & Francois K that really solidified his status as an undeniable world dance music legend, gaining him unparalleled popularity & re-contextualizing his legacy as a force to be reckoned with at the very heart of up-to-date house culture.
But, despite all the press, fame & reverence gained from these legendary parties, Krivit has yet to be definitively recognized for his ongoing party & residency at the extremely popular “718 Sessions” parties, one of the few remaining and by far & away the strongest underground house music parties still thrown in Gotham’s storied & ancient turf, carrying the torch of original NYC dance tradition and pushing it far into the new millennia and beyond: a time honored & resilient tradition that, by all indications, seems to be moving forward full-steam. Here Krivit finally fesses up to his underground conniving, compiling & mixing an array of current & classics house & dance classics in the straightforward, time-tested & skilled programming style that defines both his hometown & his very own unique style, providing a peek at the sound & the style that have fuelled his “718” parties. The style is true to its roots: the vocal focused, song-oriented tastemaker aesthetic that has defined U.S. & U.K. house culture for so long has been taken to it’s logical & rightfully modern conclusion here, while Krivit makes certain that the infallible legacy of classic timelessness finds it’s rightful place at the altar of 718 divinity. Overall, “718 Sessions” delivers exactly the same vibe as it’s namesakes: a no-nonense, cartharsis-minded party rooted in the classic traditions of NYC dance while never forgetting the crucial hope of the future of soulful electronic music.
