The second installment of the wildly popular Mojuba releases of classic and contemporary Chez Damier is finally here! By now we all know the endless contributions of Detroit’s promised one. From his early work on KMS to his collaborations with decade-long partner Ron Trent, Chez Damier has gone down as one of the indisputable legends of deep house music. Here we have 3 tracks from the man himself, compiled on this impeccably pressed, sleekly packaged 12” from one of Germany’s leading house labels of the moment, featuring a previously unreleased dub mix from Carl Craig of the legendary “Help Myself,” along with new productions from the recently resurfaced underground prodigy. The original Carl Craig mix of “Help Myself” is an early landmark of the rave-inspired deep house typical of the 1990’s U.S. underground, a standard exposition of the chord-driven, floating abstruseness of a sound that has, for the most part, faded away with the years. This “Unreleased Reshape” focuses exclusively on the more melodic instrumental elements of the track, it’s druggy, lethargic pace revolving around the entrancing sample loop that weights the endlessly ascending sound in repetitive concentration, an exercise in true rave music---before the sound was polluted with the stimulant-driven void that turned the genre into a dirty word. For the historicity of this unreleased mix alone, “Time Visions 2” is a worthy testament to the sounds of yore that still make their mark on the innumerable subgenres of dance music to this day.
