Description
Not all rave music was 130 bpms and over-the-top utilitarian. Situated at a critical moment in the early 1990's NY party scene, Moby's pre-fame self sought to explore the depths of hallucinogenic, fantastical club music, emanating the iridescent neon lights of the endless city streets, converted warehouse spaces and a prophetic, Detroit-inspired ethereality. "Mobility (Aqua Mix)" was released as the A-Side to the same 1990 EP that originally housed "Go" on its B-Side. A breathtaking, ketamine-paced exercise in classical early deep house, the track recalls the potentialities of the intersection of drugged-out rave culture and introspective NY rooted dance music in the vein of Bobby Konders or Wayne Gardiner. On the flip, Moby's excellent remix of The Shamen's "Make It Mine" demonstrates further the initial priorities of the man who later embraced the warm depravity of Spin Magazine and was threatened by Eminem on national television. How the world turns. A quintessential release and a fine example of the farthest creative reaches of the city's foundational party underworld.
