A piano prodigy in his youth, Worrell gained fame for his catchy hooks and arrangement prowess at the helm of Parliament-Funkadelic's keys, pioneering the group's use of synthesizers while holding down a prodigious solo career spanning decades. Considered by many an "unofficial" touring member of the Talking Heads for much of the 1980's, his precision-tight synth-work and sliding, wobble-warped groove-forging lent a special touch to countless studio sessions, esteemed for his collaborations with the likes of Bill Laswell, David Byrne, Sly & Robbie and Fela Kuti, not to mention his immense talent as a songwriter, arranger and soloist in his own right. Herein are five of Worrell's finest works over the years, demonstrating not just a technical proficiency, but a truly singular consciousness and creative force that earns the man a place among the finest musical experimentalists and cosmic-acoustic explorers of our time.
